Carla Smith M. Ed., RN is a serial-preneur, author, self-esteem coach, change agent, and advocate for all things health care. Her passion is to inspire and guide others to find balance between spiritual, mental, and physical health. Finding balance allows one to operate in their purpose and become self-sufficient. Carla began her career in nursing at 17 years of age by obtaining her CNA certificate while in high school. She continued her education with an Associate’s in Nursing from Rose State College, Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from University of Central Oklahoma, and also a Master’s of Education in Adult Education from University of Central Oklahoma. To further her entrepreneurial endeavors, Carla has completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing, and is currently completing her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. She has a vast knowledge of the healthcare field and thoroughly enjoys caring for others. She has held nursing positions in long-term care, hospice, LTAC’s, hospitals, mental health, and the private sector. Carla is also licensed as both a Long-Term Health Care Administrator – Adult Day, and AHA CPR Instructor.
Currently, Carla is the Co-Owner/COO of Smith Group, LLC, the parent company of Carla Smith Nurse Consulting, 28/5 Apparel and Accessories, and D&S Lawn Service. She is also Co-Owner/CEO of Oklahoma Clinical Research Institute, the leading provider in clinical trial related services. Carla has also founded a nursing organization focused on supporting the needs of African-American Nurses called Black Nurses Elite. Dynasty Care Services was a community family health center owned and operated by Carla from October 2010 through May 2016. The center provided Adult Day Services, ADvantage Services, Behavioral Health Services, and the bonus Parent’s Night Out program. Even though Carla has many passions that she has pursued, she continues to service the community at her current positions; PRN RN Charge Nurse at Red Rock Behavioral Health Services and RN Educator at the University of Oklahoma College of Public Health.
She has faced many obstacles and now openly shares her life experiences so that she may inspire and free others to embrace their heartaches, erase any fears, heal, and stand in God’s purpose. She genuinely believes that despite how we continue to sabotage our growth and progress and avoid the unknown God continues to propel us to our destiny! Carla currently resides in the Oklahoma City area and is married to her childhood sweetheart and best friend Ricky Smith, Co-Owner/CEO of Smith Group, LLC. They have two daughters; Alexis, 20 and Kennedeigh, 11. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Secret Place Community Church.
As an entrepreneur Carla has accomplished a great deal and has been recognized for her hard work and service to the community. CHUMS, honored at the “I’m Every Woman” Luncheon in 2013. Received 2015 Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Perry Publishing. Carla continues to overcome barriers to help others that share the same passion for healthcare.
